Message from the Chairman of the Board
First Bank Kansas was formed as a banking organization in 1961 by Glenn Bramwell at our present day main office in Salina. The R.H. "Dick" Zimmerman family purchased the bank in 1967. Mr. Zimmerman opened the first branch locations in Salina at the Weeks store, which later closed, and at 1333 W Crawford which continues to operate today. The Frank Whitham family purchased the bank in 1981 and later sold to the John Sutherland family in 1983.
The Assaria State Bank was purchased in 1989 and the Kanopolis State Bank, along with a branch in Ellsworth, were purchased in 1990. In 1994, an additional Salina location was added at 2860 S 9th St and Advantage Trust Company, a subsidiary of First Bank Kansas, was opened in 1997. Offices in McPherson and Abilene were opened in 1998 and 2005, respectively. In 2013, we closed the Assaria and Kanopolis locations due to significant declines in customer transactions and our ability to serve those customers at nearby locations. We recently announced the purchase of additional locations in Salina, McPherson, Lindsborg, and Hutchinson that we are excited to add following the required regulatory approvals.
We currently will have assets over $400 million following the most recent acquisition - small enough to continue to be able to provide personal service and local decisions but large enough to provide the services you want and need.
The safety and soundness of our customers and their deposits is our utmost priority. Our strong, continued growth over the years can be attributed to our many wonderful customers who have recommended us to their family and friends as well as the most outstanding employees in the state. We invite you to join our family of customers.
